Peach Malt

A Hinton family tradition from WAAAAAAYYY back is Peach Malt.  That's what all the Hinton family calls it, but it's not really a malt.  It's a  . . . smoothie?  milkshake?   I don't know, but it's good.  It's kind of evolved over the years.  When I first joined the family ( that's a long time ago!) it was made with just frozen peaches, sugar and milk blended in the blender.  But now Ken adds vanilla ice cream.  So I guess it's a smoothie changed to milkshake.  Ya, that's what it is.  I know others of the Hintons add lemon juice, or bananas,  and I don't know what all else.  I guess we all have our own version.  Ken's family had an orchard with many peach trees.  They would always freeze peaches and then make these throughout the year- usually on Sunday evenings.  We continued the tradition as we have three peach trees.  Many Sunday nights and family home evening nights we have this for a treat.  My husband always makes it.  I watched him make it, and this is what he did:

Peach Malt
Fill the blender about 1/3-1/2 full of frozen peaches (about two cups)
Add 1/4-1/3 cup sugar
Add several scoops of vanilla ice cream, then fill the blender container with milk.  Blend til it's all well blended and smooth.  Enjoy!

Orange Julius

A Sunday evening tradition in our home is Orange Julius.  We don't have it every week, but we often have this or Peach Malt - both blender drinks.  I'll post the simple Peach Malt recipe another time.  Orange Julius is my favorite- winter or summer.

Orange Julius

Ingredients:
1/2 to 3/4 can of 12 oz. frozen orange juice concentrate
1 cup milk
1 cup water
1/3 to 1/2 cup of white sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Blend it all together.
Fill the blender nearly full with ice.  Crush and blend together. Taste and add more orange juice concentrate if needed.  Happy Sunday evening!

Wendy's Frosty

.
We are loving our gel core electric ice cream maker. We've tried several recipes in it, but I think my favorite is the chocolate Frosty- which tastes a lot like Wendy's chocolate frosty (I've made vanilla, too.) It is just so easy to throw together for a little evening treat. Who doesn't love a Frosty?
You can serve it in a cup if you want, but it's really like soft ice cream, so a bowl works great.
For a 2-quart Freezer:
Mix together:
1 8 oz. tub of Cool Whip (can use light)
1 can sweetened condensed milk (can use light)
Mix together and put into the freezer and turn it on. Pour in chocolate milk almost to the top. Let freeze until it looks like a Wendy's frosty- in our machine it takes about 20-25 minutes. Now, if we just had some Wendy's french fries to dip in it. Huh, Michelle???

Toasted Marshmallow Milk Shakes

My sister, Joan, just came for a short visit. Her daughter-in-law, Sarah, is a regular recipe contributor to Howdoesshe.com. Sarah recently posted this recipe for Toasted Marshmallow Milkshakes. We decided to try them out. They were really yummy and oh, so easy. That pretty much describes all of Sarah's recipes on HowDoesShe.com. You can go there for step by step instructions, but here's the short version (for my sized blender- big):
Toast a bunch of marshmallows by putting them on a cookie sheet and watching them closely under the broiler
Put 18 cooled marshmallows in a blender
Add 3 cups vanilla ice cream and 1 1/2 cups milk
Blend well. Pour into glasses and garnish with a toasted marshmallow. A yummy summer treat!

Mormon Pina Coladas

Beat the heat with a delicious, easy virgin Pina Colada. These are so easy to make, and like any "smoothie" recipe, you can throw in whatever additions you'd like: banana is good, and a squirt of fresh lime will let you sing the song as you blend. "You put the lime in the coconut and drink it all up." Did I just date myself? Blend this up, and stretch out with a good book this afternoon! I think I will.

Mormon Pina Coladas
Fill you blender half full with pineapple juice
Add 3 T. Coconut milk
1/3 cup sugar
Fill the blender with ice. Blend and serve.

Dora Juice

Is it as hard for you to get your kids to eat their veggies as it is for me?!? This fun green smoothie gets at least a couple of servings of spinach into them and they don't even know it! We called it "Dora Juice" just to make it more fun and help their reaction to a green drink go a little more smoothly.
Spinach
1/2 can Orange Juice concentrate
Vanilla yogurt or a banana
Milk
Fill blender with spinach (I smashed it down to fit more). Add OJ concentrate (I used a little less than half...you could probably do a third), vanilla yogurt (I used 1/3 or 1/2 cup) and milk (just enough to help it blend). Blend until it turns green and there are no more spinach chunks. Sit back and watch your kids enjoy their veggies with satisfaction.
